Q&A with Oliver

1. Tell us about your path here. Why did you choose to join O'Neill Consulting?

I started my career within global contingency search firms, specializing in recruiting accounting and finance talent. A former colleague then recruited me to O’Neill Consulting in 2011. The timing and opportunity were right as I sought to enter the retained executive search sector; and turns out, joining O’Neill Consulting has been one of the best decisions of my life.

2. Describe a day in the life of Oliver. Favorite parts of your job?

To put it simply, our industry does not have a typical day or schedule, so I try to control my mornings as much as humanly possible. I am up at 4:20am every day — and have been doing this way before Jocko made it cool! My morning routine consists of making breakfast, catching up on emails and news, and lifting for 90 minutes. I love getting into the office before 7:30 am. That is the favorite part of my job — the quiet moments where you can just grind and push searches forward.

If I get my mornings right, I can put a full day’s worth of work in before 4 pm. After work, I go home and play the role of dad and husband. I have an amazing wife and two great little kids that deserve all the love and attention I can give them.

3. What is special about working here?

Easy. It’s the people. I love the connections we make with our clients, the development we can see with our candidates, and working alongside some of the most dedicated, loyal, and tenacious colleagues.

4. How has O'Neill Consulting helped you grow and perform at your best?

The projects I have led over the past years have helped me grow into a better consultant to our clients. As partner, I value spending time with these great leaders and am proud to serve as a strategic advisor to them.

5. In what ways — big or small — do you live out our mission of unleashing human potential?

You must walk the talk on this one. First and foremost, I always try to take the time to unleash my own human potential. Learn more, lift more, love more. Then I can laser focus on the one objective that matters: finding that person that will thrive in and drive results for our client’s organization.

6. What advice do you have for people looking to join O'Neill Consulting? What qualities do people need to be successful here?

Have a conversation with someone on our team. Let us share the our story with you, and I guarantee that you will be intrigued by our purpose and our fundamentals. Qualities… if you hate losing with a passion hotter than the sun, then I want to work with you.
